Ganderbal: A delegation from the Ganderbal Press Association (GPA), led by its President Ayaz Sofi, met with Hon’ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Dak Bungalow Ganderbal today. The delegation raised various concerns affecting journalists in the district and submitted key demands to enhance working conditions for the media fraternity.
One of the primary issues discussed was the need for a dedicated space for journalists in Ganderbal. President Ayaz Sofi emphasized the importance of allocating land or establishing a permanent press center to provide media professionals with a conducive working environment. In response, the Chief Minister assured the delegation that he would review the request and explore possible support.
The delegation also voiced concerns over media restrictions during VVIP visits, including those of the Chief Minister. They highlighted that journalists often face limitations in covering such events, affecting their ability to provide timely and accurate news to the public. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured the GPA members that steps would be taken to ensure better media access to official events in the future.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the Chief Minister acknowledging the vital role of the media in a democratic society and pledging his support in addressing the concerns raised by journalists in Ganderbal.
