Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has ordered remission of life imprisonment for three convicts, who were previously sentenced under Sections 302, 34, and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code.
Government Notification & Conditions:
📜 A notification issued by the J&K Home Department states that the remission is granted under Section 473 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, in accordance with S.O. 2506(E) of 2024 from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
📌 The remission is effective immediately but is subject to strict conditions, including:
✔️ Maintaining peace and good behavior in society.
✔️ Avoiding any unlawful activities that could threaten public order or state security.
✔️ No intimidation of the victims’ families.
✔️ Mandatory police check-ins once every six months.
✔️ Submission of surety and personal bonds before release.
✔️ Police surveillance of released convicts, with a warning that any violations will lead to cancellation of remission.
Convicts Granted Remission:
1️⃣ Anil Singh (Son of Sandal Singh) – Shastri Nagar, Jammu
- Served over 14 years of life imprisonment.
2️⃣ Dev Raj (Son of Sakhoo Ram @ Sukh Ram) – Chak Jaffray, Kana Chak, Jammu - Served over 16 years of life imprisonment.
3️⃣ Girdhari Lal (Son of Jia Lal) – Mangnar, Poonch - Served over 14 years of life imprisonment.
Police Surveillance & Public Order:
🚨 Concerned police stations have been instructed to monitor the released prisoners closely. Any breach of conditions will result in revocation of their premature release.
