The Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Rajouri, Bishamber Dass, conducted surprise inspections of Government Middle School (GMS) Mera in Zone Rajouri and GMS Chowkian in Zone Baljarralan, leading to the suspension of salaries for absentee and negligent teachers.
During the visit to GMS Mera, it was discovered that students were sent home at 1:00 pm without any valid reason, indicating a lack of responsibility by the school’s head and staff. Additionally, the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) was not served as per the prescribed menu, reflecting gross negligence.
At GMS Chowkian, while the school’s overall functioning was deemed satisfactory, the academic performance in Urdu was found to be alarmingly poor. It was also noted that the Urdu teacher, Jannat Begum, left the school premises at 12 noon without permission or submitting a leave application.
Taking swift action, CEO Rajouri ordered the suspension of salaries for the entire staff of GMS Mera and for Jannat Begum of GMS Chowkian until further notice. The Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) of Rajouri and Baljarralan have been directed to seek written explanations from the concerned staff and submit their reports within three days.
To address inefficiencies in staffing, CEO Rajouri has also instructed the ZEO Rajouri to rationalize the staff at GMS Mera based on the Pupil-Teacher Ratio (PTR) norms.
The CEO emphasized the need for accountability and reiterated the importance of maintaining high standards in school management and education delivery.
